Nomad VoIP service

Easy, economical, convenient and… LOCAL!

Nomad VoIP service

What if you could chat with a Montreal-based client while on a business trip in Europe? "That's already possible" you say. But what if you could make calls as if you were in Montreal, caller ID included? Yes, local calls from anywhere in the world! And what if that same client could call you in Europe as if he was placing a local call? This too is now possible and easier than ever. Forget paying per minute to reach greater Montreal and simply pay a flat monthly fee for the VoIP line and number!

Uni-Plus is pleased to introduce the NOMAD VoIP, a revolutionary new telephone service that will change forever the way you think about both long-distance calls and domestic local number portability! The Nomad VoIP telephone service is a convenient and easy way to make and receive telephone calls to and from a 514 area code number (some 450 lines also available – see chart for available exchanges), by providing you with a MOBILE touchtone telephone line service in that exchange to any location in Québec, in Canada or anywhere in the world!

You have to leave Montreal for new horizons abroad? No need to disconnect your phone line and leave your family and friends behind as well. Simply convert your number to Uni-Plus and get a Nomad VoIP. Your friends and family will be able to reach you wherever you are in the world!

You operate a business overseas and wish to have a North-American based 10 digit local 800 number, so customers from Canada and the USA can call to reach you in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America or Australia? Uni-Plus can provision that service. A North-American 800 line forwarded to a Nomad VoIP will carry your call over the internet to your own telephone device.

How it works

The secret resides in a small device about the size of a deck of cards (9cm L x 8 cm W x 3 cm H) that will fit in your suitcase or coat pocket. All the device needs to work is:

  • AC current to be powered.
  • An available port on any Internet router .
  • A touchtone compatible telephone, with which you will place and receive calls.

Once connected, you hear a Montreal dial tone the moment you lift the receiver. You can then dial the 10 digit number as a local call to reach Montreal, Laval and Montreal's local calling South-Shore. Telephone service is delivered to you through the VoIP Nomad, over your internet connection.

The Nomad is mobile! You can disconnect it, travel to a different location, city or country, connect it to a high-speed router and within a few minutes it will re-establish its connection and allow you to make and receive calls. The orange light indicates a call is in progress. A stuttering orange light indicates a call is ringing. The blue light indicates the connection is synchronized with Uni-Plus' IP platform, making it now possible to make or receive calls.

The Uni-Plus Nomad VoIP provides many of the optional features offered by traditional telephone service. If the telephone set you connect to the Nomad has call display, call waiting, visual call waiting and MWI (message waiting indicator), all of these features will work with the Nomad and are included in the basic charge. (Uni-Plus also sells compatible analog phones that deliver all of these features.)

  • Nomad VoIP telephony service: one-time prepaid $149 activation fee upon signature of a 12-month agreement, for shipping, configuration and support of the Nomad, plus selected Configuration options and Star calling features.

Convert and go!

You wish to keep your present telephone number(s)? No problem! Rather than assigning you a new number, Uni-Plus can convert your existing one(s) to the service described above. There is a $40 (or less, depending on contract length) one-time charge for each number conversion.

Additional notes

  1. The Uni-Plus VoIP telephony services require that the number(s) used for such purpose be converted over to Uni-Plus. See chart for list of exchanges which can be managed by Uni-Plus. If you prefer retaining your phone number with the existing carrier, you can call forward your existing number to a number provided to you by Uni-Plus and we will convert the phone signal to computer VoIP service.
  2. The term "local" refers to a call where you need not dial 1 and therefore toll charges are not applicable.
  3. The Nomad comes equipped with an electrical adapter. Please specify the current of the country where the device will be installed so we may ship you the appropriate current adaptor.
  4. As Uni-Plus VoIP service is mobile, 911 service is handled differently than with traditional telephone 911 services. You are responsible for advising us each time you move your VoIP service so that your location may be updated and provided to 911 authorities. Please read the 911 Emergency Service terms of service containing important information.
  5. Upon contract termination, the Nomad must be returned to Uni-Plus or a $99 fee will be charged to your account.
