The economical way to travel
Computer based VoIP
In this day and age, business takes us all over the world, but the need to stay in touch is more important than ever. This is why more and more business people hop on the VoIP telephony train to save both time and money, but more importantly, to stay in contact with their business partners and clients. Since most business people now carry their portable computer around, computer based VoIP is an ideal solution. Not only does it permit you to travel light (no more need to bring cell phone, pager and chargers), but it saves a bundle on long distance costs as well.
The computer based Uni-Plus VoIP Telephony service gives you access to Internet telephony through your personal computer, where the computer itself serves as your main telephone set.
To take advantage of this service you must have both a microphone and speaker installed on your computer. Ideally, you would use a good quality USB head set, which you can now find at a reasonable price almost anywhere. You then download and install a software application ("softphone") of your choice, and Uni-Plus will provide configuration parameters specific to your account to complete your installation. And you’re all set to go!
As long as you dial numbers located within the local Montreal calling area, your calls are free! You are in New York, London or Paris and want to call Montreal? Local call! A Montreal client wants to reach you abroad? All he has to do is dial your Montreal number and his call will be routed to your computer by our IP platform.
- Computer based VoIP telephony service: one-time $40 activation fee on a 12-month agreement, plus selected Configuration options and Star calling features.
Convert and go!
You wish to keep your present telephone number(s)? No problem! Rather than assigning you a new number, Uni-Plus can convert your existing one(s) to the service described above. There is a $40 (or less, depending on contract length) one-time charge for each number conversion.
Additional notes
- The Uni-Plus VoIP telephony services require that the number(s) used for such purpose be converted over to Uni-Plus. See chart for list of exchanges which can be managed by Uni-Plus. If you prefer retaining your phone number with the existing carrier, you can call forward your existing number to a number provided to you by Uni-Plus and we will convert the phone signal to computer VoIP service.
- Many softphone software applications are freely available on the Internet. Uni-Plus strongly suggests you use the Zoiper softphone, which has always given good results. (www.zoiper.com).
- Please note that you can only make and/or receive calls when your computer is turned on, has Internet access and the softphone software is running.
- The term "local" refers to a call where you need not dial 1 and therefore toll charges are not applicable.
- As Uni-Plus VoIP service is mobile, 911 service is handled differently than with traditional telephone 911 services. You are responsible for advising us each time you move your VoIP service so that your location may be updated and provided to 911 authorities. Please read the 911 Emergency Service terms of service containing important information.
